Abstract
An absorbent article includes beads that are modified to add functional groups. The functional groups add antimicrobial, fire retardant, alcohol repellant and other properties. The beads and functional groups may be incorporated into super absorbent materials and attached to the substrate, with or without a binder. The resulting article may have antimicrobial, fire retardant, alcohol repellant and antistatic properties making it specifically useful in medical applications.
