Larry Zale HeadshotAttorney Lawrence P. Zale received his Physics degree from Wilkes University and his Biomedical Engineering degree from Drexel University. As an engineer, Mr. Zale programmed unique bit-slice processors at the Kennedy Space Center that simulated the functioning of the five general purpose computers on the NASA STS Space Shuttles.

He then worked on developing war game testing programs for the AEGIS Battleship, then moved on to develop satellite land bases for the US Army at Tobyhanna, PA.

Following his work with the US Army, he studied at Franklin Pierce Law Center (now UNH Law School) in Concord, NH with an emphasis in Intellectual Property Law. After passing the PA and NJ Bars, and the US Patent and Trademark Office bar exam, he was admitted to practice IP Law before the USPTO nationally, and other law through the PA and NJ Courts.

He began both patent prosecution and patent litigation after graduation for one of the original Patent Law firms in Philadelphia, Paul & Paul.

With over three decades of experience, Atty. Zale has prosecuted more than 300 patent applications across biomedical, energy, aerospace, computing, and consumer product technologies, and has managed global intellectual property portfolios for companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 corporations.

Atty. Zale currently leads Zale Patent Law, Inc., serving clients from offices in Haverhill, Massachusetts and Scott Township, Pennsylvania. The firm provides comprehensive intellectual property services including patent prosecution, trademark and copyright registration, and trade secret protection for small to mid-sized businesses, start-ups, and individual inventors. Atty. Zale works with associates virtually to deliver responsive, cost-effective IP support.

GTC Lawgroup LLP — Senior Prosecution Counsel (2012–2014)

At GTC Lawgroup LLP in Westwood, Massachusetts, one of the premier IP strategy law firms on Route 128, Atty. Zale prosecuted U.S. and foreign patent applications for clients ranging from Boston-area start-ups to global conglomerates. GTC worked closely with venture capital firms and emerging technology companies.

Alstom Power — Intellectual Property Counsel (2008–2012)

As IP Counsel for ALSTOM Power in Windsor, Connecticut, Atty. Zale managed and enforced patent, trademark, and domain name portfolios globally for one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electric power production equipment. His responsibilities covered industrial boilers, steam generators, turbines, heat exchangers, generators, and high-power electric distribution networks. He also managed the legal defense of ALSTOM’s patent applications and enforcement of ALSTOM’s IP licenses in China.

Zale Patent Law — Managing Attorney (2004–2008)

Atty. Zale established his first solo practice on Adams Avenue in Scranton, Pennsylvania, providing patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret legal services primarily for start-up companies in the region.

Tyco Healthcare Group, LP / Tyco International / Covidien — Senior Intellectual Property Counsel (1998–2004)

At Tyco Healthcare Group LP in Mansfield, Massachusetts, Atty. Zale managed and enforced patent, trademark, and domain name portfolios for Tyco Healthcare, Tyco Plastics, and Tyco Security subsidiaries on a global scale. He had responsibility for all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law for divisions producing dialysis equipment, cardiothoracic devices, laboratory equipment, veterinary products, and dental product lines with approximately $3 billion in combined annual sales. He also conducted due diligence, acquisition, and intake work for Tyco International companies.

GE Corporate Research & Development — Patent Counsel (1990–1998)

At the GE Corporate Research & Development Center in Niskayuna, New York, Atty. Zale drafted and prosecuted patent applications for inventions arising from GE’s advanced research groups, including MRI, ultrasound focused ablation surgery, RF guided surgery, computer graphics, image recognition, digital cellular telephone (CDMA), and digital communications technologies.
